Engineer Abul Kalam was born on 25th November, 1923 in the South Indian city named as Vijayawada. This brilliant student had received an admission letter from University of Cambridge but was unable to achieve this oppurtunity due to World War ||.The same year ,this legend has completed his graduation in Mathematics & later on in 1941, completed his post graduation from the Prestigious Loyola College, under the University of Madras, in Chennai.

Engr Abul Kalam , selected for the Vice Chancelor post of NED University of Engineering & Technology in the year 1996 by then Governor Kamal Azfar . The point was Engr Abul Kalam was not a Ph.D scholar, which is a pre-requisite for the VC post by HEC(Higher Education Commision) but he was awarded with the VC post & he proved that Kamal Azfar has not made the wrong decision by appointing him.
When Engr. Kalam started his career at NED ,NED was offering 4 years bachelor degree in only 4 perspective. But as the time passes ,the number of engineering disciplines in the University starts to grow & it is unbelievable that when this legend left NED ,the number of disciplines were 22.

Engr Abul Kalam was extremely famous for his punctuality.He was a man of stand & sometimes he has also started the convocation ceremony without Chief Guest just because the chief guest got late. He arrived daily for his office at 8:25AM just before 5 minutes of the office timings & don't even think to leave his office before 4:25PM, when the shuttles started to take the University students back to home. Engr. Abul Kalam can't sit idle .Once he said to Registrar of NED University of Engineering & technology Engr.Javed Aziz Khan "Javed!!! I think, i am an unemployed person . One hour has been passed & there is no file on my table from your side or anyother other official", said by Registrar Engr.Javed by recalling him .
Engr. Abul Kalam's tenure has been extended four times . After 16 years ,Engr. Abul Kalam, due to illness requested the governor of Sindh Dr.Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan to let him not to continue his job. He then allowed by the governor & left his job. Engr Abul Kalam was the father of two sons , wife & a daughter. After very few days,this legend left this world . May ALLAH (S.W.T) rest his soul in peace.
