15 Cool Apps for Windows 8

Windows 8 is the latest OS by Microsoft, designed for specially for tablets. Along with several other exciting features, the Windows app store is the most important one.

Here's just a review of some cool apps for Windows 8:

  • Chimpact:

    It is an arcade-style game. Easy to play, it works with both the touchscreen and mouse input. The colours and graphics are truly amazing. There are four worlds, each world having 12 levels in which the player has to get the chimps bananas and gems. Very interesting game!

  • Fame:

    Guess the famous person behind the photo that is displayed by the app. It features more than 100 levels of guessing and plays in the following way. You get 15 reveals in each level that you can make use of to remove some of the blocks that hide the celebrities face.
    Letters are displayed at the bottom of the screen that you need to use to enter the answer on the screen.

     

  • Daily Wallpapers

    This app can customize your system with images found in local folders, on Facebook, SkyDrive, or perhaps taken by the system's camera (if you have one).
    The real fun is to be had in the "Today's Wall" and "Trending Images" sections, where you can browse a host of gorgeous images and set up your favorite to be displayed on the lock screen. Many of the images are so beautiful that you can waste plenty of time just browsing them in Slideshow mode


  • Norton Studio:

    Norton Studio is an app which controls and manages all Norton products on other PC's from a central location.

  • NewsBento: 

    NewsBento is perfect for those interested in constant updating of news, photos and headlines from the top US sites. A host of others are available via the "More News" link, and Google Reader support combined with RSS search, providing easy access to your other online favorites.







  • Fractal Photographer:

    Fractal Photographer is an excellent app for slowly revealing the fascinating, gorgeous fractal patterns.
    The app is perfect for use for tablets. Its multi-touch support enables users to zoom in or rotate to get the best possible view. The user can also use mouse to click, move focus, scroll to zoom in and out.
    The program can also use multi-color schemes to create new effects. A Save option enables to save HD versions of your best patterns, ready to be shared with others.

  • Free Books:

    There's not just Amazon or Kindle for downloading books. Here's another app for crazy book-lovers - very simple to use with an easy-going GUI. Offering more than 23,000 books all organized according to categories and authors, you can browse books at your ease. There is a "Featured" section as well where interesting books are mentioned. You can download books for reading, if you want to, by double-clicking a book 

     

  • Magic Puzzle:

    If you like puzzles this game Magic Puzzles is for you. It offers multiple sets of puzzles for you to solve, with each available with piece sizes from 35 to 600. You can play 15 puzzles sorted into the three categories animals, nature and architecture free of charge, and purchase additional puzzles for $1.49 each.
    Some puzzles are available for free in the store as well so that you may want to visit the store to download those to your system.
    You can drag and drop puzzle pieces from the right sidebar to the main area. The game provides you with another aid in form of an edges button. If you click on it, only edge pieces are displayed so that you can create the outer border fairly easily.
    The program saves your progress so that you can stop and continue to play it without losing what you have achieved so far.

     

  • MetroCommander:

    The program provides a dual-pane interface on your files and folders. It gives easy access to all the usual functions - View, Rename, Copy, Move, New Folder, New File and more - and offers integrated SkyDrive support, too. Explorer remains far more powerful, of course, but if you need something simple and more touch-friendly, then Metro Commander does the job for you.



  • MetroPass:

    Metropass is a KeePass client for Windows 8. KeePass is a password management application for Windows, which helps you store and keep track of your username and passwords in a safe, encrypted database.


    The users can use MetroPass to work with your existing KeePass 2.x database file, or create a new database from scratch. It is an easy-to-use app. You just have to enter and edit passwords, copy user names and passwords to the clipboard, and launch websites directly from the app.

  • ToolBox:

    This free-to-use app includes a host of small utilities, from a calculator and converter to weather and clock tools, and it even has a basic web browser and social networking clients, with Facebook and Twitter supported. Swiping up from the bottom of the screen reveals a host of different layouts, with between two and six windows included on each. Different apps can run in each window, so it’s great for multitasking.

     

     

  • TuneInRadio:

    Internet radio has always been a great way to keep yourself entertained. TuneIn Radio shows off the technology with real style. The huge database of this cool app - more than 70,000 stations - means you're sure to find something you like. You can browse by music, sport, news, comedy, chat, language, country, or even just find a local station if you have enabled the app to access to your location.
    The app has the ability to maintain a list of your favorite stations for easy access later. You can even pin some to your Start Screen, so you can begin listening at any time with a click.

  • WeatherBug:

    WeatherBug gives access to detailed information on the current weather conditions, as well as the future weather predictions. A powerful Maps module gives you the big picture, with satellite imagery, humidity, temperature, pressure, wind speed and more. Live Tile support keeps you informed about conditions from your very own Start Screen. You can also have WeatherBug raise a custom notification to warn you about rain, snow, fog, freezing temperature and more.


  • MediaMonkey:

    It is an advanced media player. The user can navigate and manage large music collections according to artist, album, genre and playlist with this popular app supporting common file formats such as .mp3, .m4a, .ogg, .flac and .wma.

  • Chess Masters:

    Chess Master brings chess players from all over the world together. It is a chess game app with a community. After installing the app, you have to create an account as you can't do anything without one. You can create your own games from that moment on or join games that are currently playing as a guest to watch the two players battling it out on the chessboard.
    You can play games against your friends or random opponents who see that you have created a game in the lobby. There are not many players available currently, but if you have a friend who likes to play chess as well, it should not bother you.
